FEOff2T °620VI
IVIG E1GAGEIMEIT T C
Fot CO-GAt
PREPARED ON
FEBRUARY '1 L, LO'1 4
Fellow Commissioners:
L; ,
, _ - . _ _
Regarding Council
Actions on
Commissions and
Commission Vacancies
6.a.1 Council Action at
February 10, 2014 Meeting
Hvl,v Ftte-tTs
GOIVIISSIOI
VITI
OF
FEBRUARY '1 S, LO'I 4
At its February 10th meeting the City Council approved adding two sections to the City Commission
ordinance establishing Finance and Community Engagement Commissions. This action will allow
both new commissions to be filled during the current cycle of seeking applications from Roseville
residents for all city commissions, including the one vacancy on the Human Rights Commission.
Attached for your review is an updated summary of Roseville Commissions with the respective
vacancies to be filled in March.
Please contact any one you think would be interested in serving the community on any of these
commissions. Note the deadline for application is March 5, before our next March meeting.
The comprehensive plan developed by the Administration Department relies in part on current
commissioners assisting in the recruitment of commission candidates.
Staff also prepared revisions to all existing Commission sections of the ordinance. Attached is the
one suggested revision for the Human Rights Commission. It is a significant revision to our
existing city ordinance, and is included in this packet for your information.
I recommend that the Commission authorize the Operations Committee to review and
prepare a response to these changes before the next Commission meeting scheduled for
19t". The Committee has had a preliminary discussion of the impact of establishing a separate
Civic Engagement Commission, but has not seen the attached more comprehensive changes now
being contemplated by staff. At this time I do not know when these Human Rights Commission
changes will come before the Council, so we may soon need to be prepared to advise the Council
on these proposed change from our perspective.
If the Council schedule permits us the opportunity, the Operations Committee can transmit to the
full Commission its recommended response for full Commission review and approval at its March
19`h meeting, prior to a Council decision on these significant commission revisions.
Respectfully submitted,
Gary Grefenberg, Co-Chair
Human Rights Commission's
Civic Engagement Task Force
Attachments: Updated Posting of Roseville Commission Vacancies
Staff Suggested Revisions to Human Rights Commission Ordinance
