Regular City Council Meeting <br /> Monday, February 24, 2014 <br /> Page 14 <br /> Commissioner McGuire encouraged Councilmember Laliberte to keep pushing <br /> this with the newly-appointed Metro Transit representative for this area and the <br /> Metropolitan Council for any options available; to speak louder and keep the <br /> pressure on to hopefully achieve results. <br /> Mayor Emerson suggested that voice and pressure be accomplished through "East <br /> Metro Strong" for one voice; opining that once one or two had been accomplished <br /> in the county, it would be easier to build off them in the future, but the first step <br /> was to get them in the county. Mayor Emerson noted that all Councilmembers <br /> would be receiving invitations to attend upcoming"East Metro Strong"meetings. <br /> Councilmember Laliberte concurred with Mayor Roe's suggestion and cautioned <br /> that smaller projects were easier and quicker to move through versus larger pro- <br /> jects with bigger dollars and funding harder to find. <br /> Mayor Roe noted that, if success was achieved with smaller projects, it would <br /> provide more clout for future projects,whether large or small. <br /> Mayor Roe suggested to staff to get the new Metro Council representative, Mari- <br /> lyn De La Cruz, to attend a future meeting to continue this discussion. <br /> Recess <br /> Mayor Roe recessed the meeting at approximately 8:25 p.m. and reconvened at approximately <br /> 8:36 p.m. <br /> c. Ramsey County Economic Prosperity Presentation <br /> A bench handout consisting of ten graphs as part of tonight's previously distribut- <br /> ed presentation, was provided and attached hereto and made a part hereof <br /> Ramsey County Commissioner Mary Jo McGuire and Ramsey County Director of <br /> Policy and Planning Ryan T. O'Connor were present for this presentation. <br /> McGuire <br /> Commissioner McGuire provided a brief history of this initiative or goal adopted <br /> by the Board of Commissions a year ago in an effort to cultivate economic pros- <br /> perity and combat concentrated areas of financial poverty. Following this presen- <br /> tation to cities within the county and other jurisdictions and agencies, Commis- <br /> sioner McGuire advised that the County would be holding internal workshops to <br /> determine how best to accomplish these goals collaboratively throughout the <br /> county. <br /> Ryan O'Connor <br /> Mr. O'Connor highlighted data from various sources, noting that the County <br /> could not do it alone, but could serve as an anchor institution for the metro area. <br /> Mr. O'Connor reviewed the initiative's four key policy themes: our people are our <br />
