92 <br />93 <br />94 <br />95 <br />96 <br />97 <br />98 <br />Human Rights Commission Minutes <br />March 28, 2014 — Draft Minutes <br />Page 3 of 6 <br />Commissioner Grefenberg moved and Vice Chair Becker seconded a motion to authorize staff <br />and the Program Planning Committee to s�end up to but no more than $300 on refreshments for <br />the Naturalization Ceremony on April 16t . Motion passed unanimously. <br />Review of Proposed HRC's Ordinance Language <br />99 Vice Chair Becker reviewed two versions of the proposed changes to the Ordinance language <br />10o regarding the HRC. He indicated one version was presented by staff and the other was presented <br />101 by the Operations Committee. He explained the revisions to this Code were necessary after the <br />102 City Council created the Community Engagement Commission. In addition, the Council was <br />103 hoping to create uniformity across City Code. <br />104 <br />105 <br />106 <br />107 <br />108 <br />10� <br />110 <br />iii <br />Commissioner Grefenberg requested statements regarding diversity remain within the Code. <br />Commissioner Singleton discussed the language regarding the Minnesota Human Rights Act. <br />Vice Chair Becker explained that after receiving approval from the HRC, the amended <br />Ordinance would be reviewed by a City Council sub-committee. <br />112 Ms. Collins explained one of the goals for Council and staff through the Ordinance amendment <br />113 was to create a basic framewark for each of the commissions. This basic framewark would <br />114 allow each of the commissions to continue to evolve and meet the needs of the community. <br />115 <br />ll6 <br />117 <br />118 <br />ll9 <br />120 <br />121 <br />122 <br />123 <br />124 <br />125 <br />126 <br />127 <br />12s <br />i29 <br />130 <br />131 <br />132 <br />133 <br />Chair Groff questioned the next step of the HRC. <br />Vice Chair Becker stated he was seeking feedback and approval from the HRC. <br />Ms. Collins commented the Council would be discussing this Ordinance further in late-April. <br />Chair Groff thanked Vice Chair Becker for his wark in revising the Ordinance. <br />Commissioner Singleton moved and Commissioner Grefenberg seconded a motion to approve <br />the proposed HRC Ordinance language as presented by Vice Chair Becker. Motion passed <br />unanimously. <br />Rosefest Parade Update <br />Ms. Collins commented the HRC had a slot in the parade and the Commission would not be <br />charged the $100 fee. She asked if Karen community was interested in participating in the <br />parade. <br />134 Chair Groff indicated he had spoken with representatives in the Karen community and dancers <br />135 were interested in participating in the parade. He questioned what other items need to be <br />136 planned for the parade. <br />
