<br />DAHLEN & DWYER, INC. <br /> <br />The Region '5 share of jobs noticeably exceeded the Nation' 5 in finance, <br />insurance, and real estate. Three industries - services, manufacturing, and wholesale <br />and retail trade account for two-thirds of the Region's jobs. Continuing the trend of <br />the past decade in Minnesota and Nationally, the service sector has experienced the <br />greatest job growth. The Metropolitan Council reported that service sector jobs <br />constituted 40% of new jobs gained in the region. <br /> <br />Minneapolis-St. Paul is among the fastest-growing Metro Areas in the Northern <br />U.S., both in terms of population and employment. However I the change in age <br />composition is slowing the employment growth rate. Retir~ng "baby boomers" will <br />have the greatest impact on employment after the year 2010. <br /> <br />The Twin Cities outpaced the Nation once again in per capita income, running <br />15% above the national average. According to a 1997 Sales & Marketing <br />Management Report, Minneapolis-St. Paul continues to rank high in several population <br />income categories from a national survey of 315 metropolitan areas. Per Sales & <br />Marketing Management, the Metro Area's buying power index continues to ran k 12th <br />and represents a weighted index that converts population, effective buying income, <br />and retail sales into a measurement of a "market's ability to buy". The Minneapolis- <br />St. Paul Metropolitan Area is an attractive living environment and stable urban <br />community. Overall, the economic forecast for the Twin Cities is favorable and <br />steady growth is expected. <br /> <br />POPULATION <br /> <br />The Minneapolis-St.Paul Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) is the 15th largest <br />in the United States. The center of the Metropolitan Area, as measured by the <br />Metropolitan Council, consists of seven counties that contain 93% of the federal MSA <br />population of 2.68 million. <br /> <br />The population grew by 15.5% between 1980 and 1990. Between 1990 and <br />1995 the growth rate was 7.00/0, compared to _4.1 % for the State of Minnesota.
