City Center Update

Dear Resident:

The purpose of City Center Update is to keep you informed about.the activities of the Roseville
City Center Task Force. The Task Force study is the first step in an extensive, public process to
determine the needs of the City Center neighborhood for the next 25 years. You have received
City Center Update because you live either in or near the City Center area involved in the study.
The Roseville City Council wants you to be informed about the Task Force activities and involved in
the planning process.

..., .. I.

The 13-member City Center Task Force was appointed by the RoseviHe City Council in August of
1998. The Task Force is composed of 13 citizen members. The study will take at least nine months
and is supposed to be completed by mid-July. 1999. The consultant is Kim Way, a nationally
recognized city center designer with the firm Ellerbe-Becket. Roseville's Community Development
Director, Dennis Welsch (490.2232) is the City staff coordinator for the project.

The purpose of the City Center study is to be visionary - to determine what the needs of the City
may be in the study area for the next 25 years. The study was recommended by the Planning
Commission in the 1994 Comprehensive Plan. The center of the study area is the corner of
Lexington Avenue and County Road C. As Kim Way said at the October 8 organization meeting.
the strength of the area is Central Park, the Civic Center and the existing scale of buildings in the
area. The challenge is to make the City Center more accessible by pathway, sidewalk and street
systems and to create a mix of uses that interest all age groups within the community.

One of the upcoming activities of Kim Way and the Task Force is to interview interested groups in
the community including one meeting specifically designed for property owners in or near the study
area.

The second meeting of the City Center Task Force is scheduled for Thursday, October 22,1998
beginning at 6:30 p.m., in City Hall. 2660 Civic Center Drive. The meeting is open to the public.
This meeting and future meetings will be telecast on Cable Channel 16.

If you have questions, please contact Dennis Welsch at 490-2232 (fax: 490~2931). The City Center
Update will be sent to you each month prior to the City Center Task Force meeting.

Attachments:
1. Agenda for October 22 meeting
2. Map of study area
3. Meeting notes from first meeting of October 8, 1998
4. Charge to the Task Force from the City Council
5. Names/addresses of Task Force members
