Please swe your reasons for wanting to serve on this Commission (p1ease be as specific as possible. Use
additional sheet if necessary.)

Roseville. as a first ring suburb. is in competition with its neighboring cities
and those in this metropolitan area for young families. Unless we progress
in renewing and upgrading our public infrastructure facilities, we are going

to lose the opportunity to revitalize our community we face the declining image
of similar "first ring suburbs". We need to develop a City Center concept that
can compete with the Shoreview, Woodbury, Eagan and similar community centers.
Obviously, my background on the recreation and the infrastructure committes
has provided me, botn with the knowledge or our strengths ana tne counterpo1nt,
our shortcomings.

Being retired, I have the time necessary to adequately fulfill my duties on
the Task Force.
The biggest challenge ~acing the Task Force is to effectively integrate existing
facilities with any new proposals for expanded public-private developments.
Another challenge) especially regarding recreation rac1.11tles, IS the question
of centralization versus decentralization of activities. We have haA an effecti~
WhatDartnershio ~ith thef~chqQl distric~ and are other partnerships possible?
clS your VleWOI Ute role 0 UUS LonumSSlon?

To examine the char e to the task force from the Council and to
recommendations to the Council and Planning Commission and hope u
to the Parks and Recreation Commission) regarding the results of their
investigation and deliberations.

Other Comments: (Use this space to include any further information you would like the City CoWlci1 to consider,
or that you feel is re1evant to the appointment you are seeking. You may also attach other materia1s you would
like the Council to consider.)

Since the recreational facilities already present on the Civic Center site
represent a major component at any potentIal \,;1(:y \,;ent~r plan, 1 reel toac
representation from the Parks and Recreation Commission, as the Councils P & R

advisory body, should be represented on the Task Force is essential.

I understand this appointment may be d:i.scu.ssed at a public meeting.

4/~<<I ~if-

Signature

-.......
........

August 21, 1998
Date
