<br />SBF II SPECIFICATIONS <br /> <br />I. GENERAL <br />A. The design of me strUC!1Jral system Shall be a clear span frame rigid for <br />wind load with straight columns and tapered roof beams; and a gable roof. <br />The roof beam Shall be desig.,ed as a simple beam for live load. <br />B. Actual building length Shall be structural line to strUC!1Jralline and Shall be <br />the same as nominal-i.e.. the number of bays times length of bays. <br />C. Actual building width snail be struC!1Jral line to stTUC!1Jral line and Shall be <br />the nominal building width. <br />D. The roof shall have a 0.25" in 12" 51008. <br />E. All components and parts of the structural system shall be as indicated <br />on the drawings and or specIfications. All components and pans shall <br />be clearly marked and erection drawIngs shall be supplied for identifica- <br />tion and assembly of the parts. <br />F. Field modification of oarts shall be in accordance with the best standard <br />procedures and shall be the resøonsibility of the building erector. <br />G. Foundation. <br />1. Foundations shall be adequately designed by a comQlltent engin_. <br />retained by other than the building manuflctUrer. in accordance <br />with the best recommended practices fOl' the spec:ific soil conditions <br />of the building site. <br />All reactions for the proper design of foundations shall be sup- <br />plied by Butler Manufllcturing Comoany. <br />2. Anchor bolts shall be as søec:ified by Butler Manufacturing <br />Company's standard anchor bolt layout drawingL <br />Anchor bolts shall be supplied by the contractor. not the <br />building manufllcturer. <br />II. STRUCTURAL STEEL DESIGN <br />A . All structural mill sections or weld~up plate section. shall be designed <br />in accordance with the 197B edition of AISC "Specifications for the <br />Design. Fabrication and Erection of Structural Steel for Building.... and all <br />coId-formed steel structural members shall be dasigned in accordance with <br />the 19BO edition of AISI "Specification. for the Design of Cold-Formed <br />Steel Structural Members". <br />B . Design of SBF II Structural System is based on an enclosed building <br />only and in accordance with a specified code. (Aefer to DesIgn Loads <br />and Building Codes.) <br />III. PRIMARY FRAMING <br />A. Rigid frames <br />1 . Roof beam. shall be tapered. and column. shall be straight welded <br />up plate sections complete for bolted field assembly. <br />a. All cap plates. compr_ion plates. stiffener plates. and b8e <br />plates shall be factory welded into place. and have the bolt <br />connection holes shop fabricated. <br />b. Roof beams shall be one piece. <br />c. Columns and roof beam. shall be shop fabricated. complete <br />with holes in flanges for the attachment of secondary struc- <br />tural members except for field work as noted on manufac- <br />turer's erection drawing.. <br />2. All bolts for field aMmbly of frame members shall be high <br />strength bolts as indicated on erection drawings. <br />B. Endwall Structural. <br />1. The endwall structural. shall be cold-formed channel members <br />designed and fabricated in ICCOI'dance with the 1980 AISI <br />specifteations. <br /> <br />2. Encwall struC!1JralS Shall consist of ancwall posts. corner POsts an.:: <br />roof beams as reQuored by design criterl8. <br />a. All splice plates and b8e clips shall be Shop fatmClted co"..· <br />plate with bolt connection holes. <br />c. Intermediate frames shall be substituted for corner posts and em- <br />wall roof beams when specified. <br />Necaury endwall postS and holes for connection to me in- <br />termediate frame used in the endwall shall be snop <br />fabricated. <br />IV. SECONDARY STRUCTURAL MEMBERS <br />A. Purl ins and Girts <br />1. Purlin. and girts shall be "Z" shaped. precision roll formed. <br />2. Girts shall be 8" deep "Z" sections. <br />3. Purlin. shell be 8" or 9 Y.... deep "Z" sections. <br />4. Outer flange of all girts shall contain factory-punched holes for <br />oanet connections. <br />5. Outer flange of purlins shall contain factory-punched holes for <br />oanel connections. Optional purlins are also available witho'Jt <br />factory-punched holes for panel connections. <br />B. Eave StrutS <br />1. Eave StrutS shall be B" 01' 9Y.. "deeø "C" sections. <br />C. Bracing <br />1 . Bracing shall be located as indicated on drawings. <br />2. Diagonal bracing shall be hot-rolled of size indicated on drawings. <br />and attached to columns and roof beams where and as indicated <br />on drawingL <br />3. Sag rods. when reQuired. shall be hot-rolled and installed as in- <br />dicated on drawings. <br />4. Flange braces. purlin braces. sag rods. etc.. when reQuired shall be <br />cold-formed end installed as indicated on drewings. <br />V. WELDING <br />A. Welding procedure and operator qualification. and welding quality stan- <br />dards shall be in accordance with the American Welding SocietY struC!1Jral <br />welding code. In.pection other than visual in.pection as defined by A WS <br />paragreph B.15.1. shall be identified and negotiated prior to bidding. <br />B. Certification of welder qualification shall be supplied when <br />reQuested. <br />VI. STRUCTURAL PAINTING <br />A. Prior to oainting. the fabricator shall clesn the steel of loose rust. loose mill <br />scale. dirt. and other foreign material. Unl_ otherwise specified the <br />fabricator shall not sendblast. flame clesn. or pickle prior to painting. The <br />fabricatOr shall then factory coat all steel with one coat of primer oaint for· <br />mulated to eQual or exceed the performance reQuirementS of Federal <br />Spacification TT-P-636. <br />B. The shop coat of paint is a primer and is intended to protect the steel for a <br />short period of exposure.
