Report on the Roseville Area Project
"Communities for a Lifetime"
February 2014
This is a report on the Roseville area project "Communities for a Lifetime," which
concluded its initial phase at the end of the 2013 calendar year. The highlight of
the project and the main subject of this report was a series of community dialogs
set in a focus group format. The community dialogs were fundamental in achieving
the goals of the project to date. The dialog process engaged a large number of
citizens and resulted in thought-provoking conversations about significant issues.
The entire project operated under Roseville Area Schools Community Education
Department, Karen Schaub, Director of Community Education and Public
Relations. Schaub was joined by partners from the City of Roseville Parks and
Recreation Department representatives from area agencies and organizations, and
community members. Together, the group formed the Communities for a Lifetime
(CFL) Task Force. (Appendix I)
The CFL Task Force contracted with an outside consultant (Bridget Gothberg of
BG Consulting) to help develop the framework that the community dialogs would
use. By using the Community Dialog Toolkit, the CFL Task Force and the
consultant worked together to determine the timing, location, and projected
participants for the dialogs so as to insure an accurate representation of the
Roseville area. Finally, they settled on the four main questions to guide the
conversations in each of the focus groups. The four questions were:
(1) What ae the best services in this community, and what othe sevices
ae needed to make this your "Community for a Lifetime"?
(2) What patnerships, connections, or elationships can be built or
impoved to make this community stonge?
(3) What does your ideal community of 2024 look like?
(4) What else would you like to tell us?
A number of positive outcomes were realized through this project. Among them
were: an increased number of citizens aware of the CFL concept, a potential pool
of citizens interested in furthering CFL goals, and a framework for continued
dialogs—not only among citizens, but also among members of the partnering
agencies. A summary analysis of the focus groups and recommendations which
emerged from the process are included on the following pages.
CFL Task Force Final Report, February 2014 1
