Skillman Avenue. <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />1. The City ordinances require that garages be setback 5 feet <br />from side property lines. <br /> <br />2. James Melville has an existing garage which is located right <br />on the side property line. <br /> <br />3. Mr . Melville has requested a minor variance to remove the <br />non-conforming status so that he can raise the garage and <br />install a new floor. <br /> <br />4. The Minor Variance committee unanimously recommended approval <br />of a 5 foot variance because of the hardship presented by <br />having to relocate the garage. Relocation of the garage <br />would also make access to the garage more difficult and may <br />result in the removal of a tree. <br /> <br />Alternatives: <br /> <br />1. Deny the variance and maintain the non-conforming status. <br />2. Approve the variance as requested. <br /> <br />Policy Ob;ectives: <br /> <br />1. To bring existing non-conforming structures into compliance <br />with the ordinance over time by not allowing any expansion or <br />structural alteration. <br /> <br />Staff Recommendation: <br /> <br />1. It is recommended that the City Council approve James <br />Melville's request for a minor variance at 1193 W. Skillman <br />Avenue. <br /> <br />Council Action Requested: <br /> <br />1. Motion to approve James Melville's requests for a minor <br />variance at 1193 W. Skillman Avenue. <br />
