Background: 1. Michael Platt/Fuddruckers originally requested a variance to sign height, sigh size, and sign setback to allow a sign which would be visible over the top of the Investor's Savings Bank Building at the corner of Snelling and County Road C. The applicant has subsequently revised his request such that only the minimum amount of additional height is being requested to make the sign visible over the top of Investor's Savings. No setback or size variance is now being requested. 2. The City Council has continued consideration of this matter until February 24, 1992 and directed staff to send a copy of the resolution passed by the Council to MNDOT. 3. MNDOT has again indicated that they will not grant permission for such a sign to be constructed on MNDOT property. 4. City staff investigated a report that there were restaurant directional signs on I-394 in Golden Valley. Staff found no such signs visible from I-394. There were signs half a block away which appeared to be on local right-of-way and not on MNDOT property. 5. City staff also reviewed past files and minutes determined that Mr. Platt has expressed concern about impact of Investors Savings Bank on the visibility of business prior to construction of the bank and encour~ged to look at signage changes which is what he is proposi'Rg. and the his was now 6. The Roseville Planning Commission, on a 4-2 vote, recommended approval of Michael Platt/Fuddruckers request for a sign height variance at 2740 Snelling Avenue North subject to the condition that the variance only apply to the current restaurant operation. Alternatives:
