Gatlin, Public Works Director <br />City of Roseville <br />2660 Civic Center Drive <br />Roseville, M N 55113 <br /> <br />Re: C.S. 6216 (T.H. 51) at County Road C <br />Restaurant Signing <br /> <br />Dear Mr. Gatlin: <br /> <br />In response to your January 31 st letter to Ms. Mary Bieringer and City Council Resolution <br />8743, we regret that permission cannot be granted for the erection of a directional <br />restaurant sign on Mn/DOT property. There are programs for this type of signing; <br />however, they apply only to rural highways. The area around T.H. 51 and County Road <br />C is considered urban. <br /> <br />It is Mn/DOT's responsibility to turn property back to private ownership so that it can be <br />placed on the tax rolls when it is identified as no longer needed for highway purposes. <br />Mn/DOT always includes the city in making this decision and offers excess land to the <br />city before making it available to private entities. We note that in this particular case, sight <br />lines to the restaurants could have been retained by the city when it issued the necessary <br />building permits. <br /> <br />Thank you for bringing this matter to OJJr attention. We apologize for not getting an <br />answer to you by February 24th, the date of the hearing. With the reorganization of the <br />Metro District traffic office, Ms. Bieringer's responsibilities relating to highway signing have <br />been assigned to me.
