CANOPY SPECIFICATIONS
FOR A
HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE COLLECTION SITE

The collection site for household hazardous waste (HHW) would consist
of a concrete pad covered by a canopy, along with support equipment
and vehicles.

Specifications

The canopy would measure 20 feet by 40 feet, be 16 feet tall at its
highest point, and have a minimum clearance of 9 feet. The canopy
would be constructed of flame retardant 16-ounce vinyl laminated
polyester, and would be one continuous section, with all major seams
heat sealed to eliminate needle points and improve stress load. All
stress points would be reinforced with heavy duty material. Pole
support holes would be reinforced with steel rings and heavy duty
leather. Side walls--which can be rolled up or down--would be
supplied at each 20-foot end of the canopy to reduce wind and rain
penetration. Polypropylene rope would be used for post tie-downs,
with high test aircraft cable providing a framework for the canopy
fabric.

The canopy would be supported by 15 posts: eight outside posts
measuring 2"x4"x9'; four corner posts measuring 4"x6"x9'; and three
center posts measuring 4"x6"xI5'. All materials would be purchased
locally and would consist only of top grade treated wood. Each
outside post would be anchored by two steel stakes, a minimum of 24"
in length. Replacement posts, rope, and cable would be stored in
vehicles on site.

Structural integrity tests indicate the canopy would withstand at its
weakest point a horizontal wind load of 20-psf minimum, which equates
to a wind speed of 88.4 mph. Moreover, the canopy manufacturer has
stated that the use of treated wooden support posts offers improved
structural integrity in comparison with the more commonly used
aluminum poles.

All components of this structure would comply with City, County, and
State rules and regulations. This canopy is UL-approved and meets
NFPA-0701. Uniform Fire Code regulations on this canopy can be found
in UFC Article 32 sec. 32.102 - sec. 32.119. Uniform Building Code
regulations can be found in UBC Appendix 55. A certification of flame
retardance would be issued with the canopy.

Additional information and specifications follow.
