<br />REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br /> <br />DATE: 8-12-91 <br />ITEM NO.: "E-~ <br /> <br /> <br />Manager Reviewed: <br /> <br />Agenda section: <br /> <br />~d <br /> <br />Consent <br /> <br />Item Descrip <br /> <br />Michael Schlosser request for a minor variance <br />at 2056 Dale Street. <br /> <br />Backqround: <br /> <br />1. city ordinances require that detached garages be located in a <br />rear yard. <br /> <br />2. Michael Schlosser is proposing to construct a new detached <br />garage such that approximately half of the garage (12 feet) <br />would be located in a side yard. The remainder of the garage <br />would be located in the rear yard. <br /> <br />3. The Minor Variance Committee unanimously recommended approval <br />of the variance. The Committee believed this was a <br />reasonable request because it saves a mature tree and the <br />garage would have a considerable setback from Dale Street. <br /> <br />Alternatives: <br /> <br />1. Deny the variance and require the garage to be constructed in <br />the rear yard. <br /> <br />2. ApprQve the variance as requested based on a finding that a <br />hardship or practical difficulty exists. <br /> <br />Policy Obiectives: <br /> <br />1. To insure that structures are built in accordance with the <br />city's zoning ordinances. <br /> <br />2. To grant variances where hardships and/or practical <br />difficulties are pr~sent. <br /> <br />Staff Recommendation: <br /> <br />1. It is recommended that the city Council approve Michael <br />Schlosser's request for a minor variance at 2056 Dale Street. <br /> <br />Council Action Requested: <br /> <br />1. Motion to approve Michael Schlosser's request for a minor <br />variance at 2056 Dale Street. <br />
