City ordinances require that garages be setback a minimum of <br />5 feet from a side property line. <br /> <br />2. Donald Wilson is requesting a minor variance to allow him to <br />add a 9x18 addi tion onto the rear of his existing garage. <br />The existing garage has a 4 foot setback instead of the <br />required 5 foot setback. The proposed addition would be. <br />setback 5 feet, however. <br /> <br />3. The Minor Variance Committee unanimously recommended approval <br />based on the fact that there would be a hardship in bringing <br />the existing garage into compliance and because the proposed <br />addition would meet the required 5 foot setback. <br /> <br />4. Affected neighbors concur with the variance request. <br />Alternatives: <br /> <br />1. Deny the variance based on the finding that no hardship or <br />practical difficulty exists on the site. <br /> <br />2. GraJ;lt the variance based on the finding that there is a <br />hardship or practical difficulty present on the site. <br /> <br />Policy Obiectives: <br /> <br />1. To insure that property is developed in accordance with the <br />City's zoning ordinance. <br /> <br />2. To grant variances where hardships and practical difficulties <br />are present. <br /> <br />Staff Recommendation: <br /> <br />1. It is recommended that the city Council approve Donald <br />Wilson's request for a minor variance at 933 Grandview. <br />
