Backaround: 1. The City Council, in October, adopted a number of amendments to the City's sign ordinance. Items concerning seasonal bann~rs and institutional signs (churches, parks, etc.) were continued for further discussion. 2 . The City Council discussed this matter at the January ~ork Session and directed staff to do further research concerning provisions relating to special events and off premise directional signs. 3. Additional sign issues have been studied concerning wall signage for multi-tenant buildings that do not front a public street and the handling of window signage on buildings in which the principal exterior building material is glass. 4. The Planning Commission discussed the proposed amendments on March 10, 1993 and made the following recommendations. 1. The Commission recommends that the following language be incorporated into the City's sign ordinance: 14.600 F. (Existing F. would become G.) F. Wall signage for tenant spaces on portions of the buildings that do not front on pUblic streets, shall be allowed an area of wall signage not to exceed 1/2 the area allowed if the same facade fronted a public street. 14.190 Window Sians Signs affixed to windows, or placed within 36" of a window to be viewed from the exterior of the building, shall not occupy "more than 25% of the total window area, nor shall they be placed in a location that would block the view into the building from a public street of the clerk or cashier's area. Under no circumstance shall the total area of window signage exceed 1/2 the allowable area of wall signage for the effected building.
