<br />Sign Ordinance Issues <br /> <br />7/20/92 <br /> <br />Page 7 <br /> <br />New $pedal Events Section: Special Events Signs and decorations prohibited except by <br />temporary pennit as follows: <br /> <br />Residential Districts - No Special Event signs, decorations, or displays, except for <br />public and institutional uses, and then for a certain number of days per event and a <br />certain number of events per year. <br /> <br />Business and Industrial Districts - Signs, decorations and displays are restricted to a <br />certain number of days per event and a certain number of events per year. <br /> <br />The following devices defined previously may be allowed by permit only for special <br />events, in addition to the total allowable sign area, provided certain standards .are met and <br />complied with: <br /> <br />Searchlights, Small Balloons, Tents, Bannerettes, Banners, Laser Light Show <br /> <br />The following lot decorations and activities shall be prohibited for special events: <br /> <br />* <br /> <br />Pennants, spinners, windsocks, streamers, ribbons, whirling devices, light bulb <br />strings, flashing lights, portable trailer signs. portable electric signals, portable <br />sandwich board or A-frame signs, hot or cold air balloons or lasers. <br />Displays or special features on any landscaped areas, except on light poles. <br />Aerial rides <br />Food unless purchased through a licensed food vendor <br />Large balloons or a collection of small balloons exceeding two feet in diameter. <br />Added lighting that does not meet City Code. <br />Advertising devices in any public right-of-way. <br /> <br />* <br />*. <br />* <br />* <br />* <br />* <br /> <br />Grand Opening Special Event Decorations: <br /> <br />Any new business in any non-residential zoning district may use decorations and <br />signs to celebrate one grand opening special event, limited to ten consecutive <br />calendar days, as long as the decorations and signs comply with the same <br />regulations as those for other special events. <br /> <br />Before any special event signs or decorations shall be pennitted to be used for an event, a <br />business shall submit a completed application for a pennit with the Community <br />Development Department. An parking area must be maintained even though a portion of <br />required parking spaces may be used to celebrate the event. <br /> <br />Citations will be issued if special events sign age is not removed immediately after the <br />event. Subsequent violations will result in a suspension of the right to future special events <br />permits for a year or more. <br />
