Restrict Residential signage more than Business signage. 11ús view also recognizes that <br />different districts can have different standards. but assumes that residential districts should be <br />protected even more than commercial districts from the intrusion of potentially unsightly signage. <br />This view assumes that residential districts should be. to a reasonable extent, free from the visual <br />clutter associated with commercial areas. The extreme would be to ban special event signs and <br />banners altogether in the residential districts. <br /> <br />The Planning Commission has conducted an open process and has tried to include in the discussions people <br />and organiZations affected by the potential changes in the Code. We are continuing to do this as we proceed <br />with other signage issues. Your direction on this matter will help the Planning Commission proceed in a <br />timely and effective manner. We have attached to this memorandum a copy of the background materials on <br />which this discussion is based. <br />
