{f

~"

REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION

DATE: 9-12-94

ITEM NO.: B-3

Manager Reviewed:

Agenda Section:

Department Approval:
~r/bytMI

Item Description:

Consent
Mark and J ermifer Schmaedeke request for a minor variance at
1915 Shryer Avenue.

Background:

1 , The property under consideration at 1915 Shryer Avenue is zoned R -1, single
family, and is in the area where the 1994 pavement management program is under
construction. City ordinances require that driveways be setback 5 feet ftom the
side lot line.

2. The Schmaedeke's currently have a one car attached garage. With the
construction underway and their driveway partially tom up, the Schmaedekets
would like to provide off-street parking for a second vehicle. In order to
accomplish this, they are requesting a 2-1/2 foot side yard setback variance for
their driveway. This would bring their driveway to within 2-1/2 feet of their
neighbors sideyard property line.

3. The Minor Variance Committee has reviewed this application and has
unanimously recommended approval of the 2-1/2 foot sideyard setback variance.
It was the Committee's belief that providing off-street parking was of benefit to
the applicants and to the community as well. This is consistent with previous
City actions regarding expansion of single car garages or providing additional
parking space on private property.

4. All affected adjacent property owners indicated their approval of the proposed
vanance.
