No.: COMPU/20A/08/B
(Please quote in all corres.)

INDESTRUCTIBLE BAR CODES FROM COMPUTYPE

st Paul, Minnesota - February 1989 -- AN INDESTRUCTIBLE NEW BAR CODE,
WHICH CAN BE SCANNED EVEN WHEN it is attached to products in a
furnace, has been launched by bar coding specialists Computype.

The new bar code is a serrated label. A thin strip of stainless
steel is die cut with holes to represent the bars - light from a
laser scanner passes straight through the holes and is not reflected
back, giving the same effect as black bars.

Developed specifically for high temperature application - such as
monitoring work in progress in the production of Cathode ray tubes,
printed circuit boards or the glass and steel industries - the new
bar code is also resistant to chemicals and exposure in severe
weather conditions.
