Sale Pointers:
Make sure your sale items are clean, organized and marked. Replenish your stock as you sell.

Organize your stock by type; clothes, kitchen items, garden/yard, appliances, furniture.
Clearly indicate where you want shoppers to park. Consider contacting the PD about getting a
temporary parking permit, if your street has limited parking.
Make sure you have a good supply of change, including coins. Decide in advance if you will
accept checks and consider posting a notice stating whether you will accept checks.
Make your sale festive! Post colorful signs. Use balloons. Have a freebies box of things you
no longer need but customers may appreciate: magazines, small toys, kitchenware, etc.
Garage Sale Safety Tips
Do not advertise garage sales as a “Moving Sale”. This implies that the house may be vacant
for extended periods of time.
If your sale is in the garage, yard or street, keep the doors to your house locked while you are
outside.
Be attentive! Greet or acknowledge every visitor. Be friendly and available.
Do not answer personal questions about the house, such as type of alarm, daytime occupancy,
etc.
Unless you know the person, do not allow anyone to use your bathroom, telephone or other fa-
cilities.
Keep a very close watch on your cash box. Relocate any large amounts of cash to a secure lo-
cation.
Call 9-1-1 to report any suspicious activity.
