To the City of Roseville Parks and Recreation,
I am very interested in the Amphitheater Mosaic Project and I thank you for inviting me
to participate in the artist search.
I have been creating mosaics for several years, my first being about twelve years ago.
I’ve been a professional artist for the last five years, and working in public art for about
two years. My work can be found at the Rice Street Branch Public Library of the St. Paul
system, Regions Hospital in St. Paul, the Health Partners Specialty Clinic in St. Paul, St.
Joseph’s Hospital in St. Paul, St. Cloud Great River Regional Library, U of Iowa
Hospital, Dell Children’s Hospital in Texas, and soon at Kaiser Medical Center in Los
Angeles.
Admittedly, all of these projects have been interior projects. However, I understand the
requirements of outdoor mosaics and I’m prepared to create a mosaic that will stand up to
the elements of our weather here in Minnesota.
I have worked very successfully for the City of Roseville on graphic design projects,
winning a Minnesota Association of Government Communicators (MAGC) Award of
Excellence in 2004 and an MAGC Award of Merit in 2006. Both awards were the result
of my collaboration with Tim Pratt, designing literature for recycling studies.
This project seems to be a nice blend of my artistic skills and my graphic design skills.
First, I would visit the site (where I have attended several concerts!), and look at
available materials/colors. After my questions are answered and I thoroughly understand
the desires of all involved, I would come up with designs for the committee. For a project
like this, I would work indirectly and install the mosaic once it is assembled, following
up with grout and sealer after that.
The other design aspects of this project also interest me both as a designer and an artist. I
would look forward to that challenge.
As far as the timeline goes, that shouldn’t be a problem at all. I have always completed
projects early.
I look forward to hearing from you!
Barbara Keith
37574 Dew Drop Road
Lanesboro, MN 55949
507-467-2277
