Holt, Simbeck, Wall <br />ABSENT: <br />6Boehm and Ristow notified staff ahead of time about being unable to attend <br />STAFF: <br />7 Anfang, Brokke <br />8 <br />INTRODUCTIONS/ROLL CALL/PUBLIC COMMENT <br />91. <br />10None <br />11 <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES – JANUARY 10, 2013 MEETING <br />122. <br />Commission Recommendation: <br />13 <br />14Minutes for the January 10, 2013 meeting were approved unanimously, Wall abstained due to <br />15missing the January meeting. <br />16 <br />COMMISSION GOALS 2013-2015 <br />173. <br />18Diedrick and Simbeck updated Commissioners on the background and process for the proposed 2013- <br />192015 Parks & Recreation Commission goals <br />20Seven goals were identified from earlier commission discussions with staff assistance and <br />21taking into consideration the city council work plan <br />22Following a commission discussion on the overall goal process, each individual goal was <br />23reviewed with updates being made where appropriate. Revised Parks & Recreation <br />24Commission Goals 2013-2015 will be presented at the March meeting <br />25Commissioners discussed how they might support deferred maintenance needs once the <br />26renewal program is completed. Commissioners talked about the need for long-term budget <br />27considerations. This is an important topic, it is easily lost in the greater budget and we do not <br />28want to go backwards with deferred maintenance on the renewal program investments <br />29 <br />MEETING CALENDAR FOR 2013 <br />304. <br />31Commissioners agreed to consider a July meeting as needed to address renewal program <br />32updates <br />33Commissioners set Saturday, September 7 as the alternate date for that month’s meeting <br />34Commissioners set Thursday, November 7 as the alternate date for that month’s meeting <br />35 <br />PARKS and RECREATION RENEWAL PROGRAM <br />365. <br />37Doneen updated the Commission on activities involving the Natural Resources and Trails <br />38Subcommittee <br />39To date, the subcommittee has focused mainly on trails. Natural Resources has not <br />o <br />40been totally put aside as staff have kept the group informed on current projects in <br />41Reservoir Woods and at Langton Lake. There is a need for a Natural Resource project <br />42plan <br />43The subcommittee has been working to meld the parks and recreation master plan and <br />o <br />44the pathways and trails master plan <br />45The B2 pathway has been identified as the #1 priority. It is important to the <br />46community as a whole because of its service to schools and its connections to <br />47parks <br />48Committee is working on funding priorities. They are considering needs as <br />49well as connections to the park system <br />50Other Possible pathways and trails projects being considered are: <br />o <br />51Connectors along Victoria and Hamline Avenue – there is a community need <br />52but little park connection <br /> <br />
