ROSEVILLE PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION <br />MINUTES OF MEETING OF MAY 6, 2008 <br />ROSEVILLE CITY HALL — 6:30PM <br />PRESENT: Brodt Lenz, Johnson, Kamrath, Kendall, Kruzel, Pederson, Ristow, Stark, Willmus <br />ABSENT: Hiber (contacted staff prior to meeting) <br />STAFF: Brokke, Anfang <br />1. INTRODUCTIONS/ROLL CALLIPUBLIC COMMENT <br />Public comment from resident Ron Tanning in regards to issues at Langton Lake, including area. west of Lydia <br />viaduct where mud is being deposited in the parking lot. <br />Mr. Tanning also addressed the north end of Langton Lake and voiced his opinion that it is being choked off by <br />lily pads. He questioned whether we have over "storm-sewered" the lake and is concerned that storm water is <br />funneling directly into the lake. Ron also recommended treating the lake when the plants are actively growing <br />and flowering. <br />Staff will be looking into his concerns about storm drains, weed control, and trail reconstruction. <br />2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES — APRIL 1, 2008 MEETING <br />Commission Recommendation: Minutes for the April 1, 2008 meeting were approved unanimously. <br />3. DEPARTMENT REVIEW <br />Jill Anfang briefed the Commission on recent department operations and upcoming and recently hosted <br />programs and events. This month's presentation included information on Healthy Roseville Walking Routes, <br />OVAL, Group visit Package, Women's Outdoors programs at HANC and Pottery in the Garden. <br />4. JOINT COMMISSION/COUNCIL MEETING DISCUSSION <br />Two June dates are available for the upcoming joint Council/Commission meeting — June 16 or June 30. The <br />meeting will last 30-40 minutes — potential topics for discussion include; Parks and Recreation Master <br />Planning, Park Improvement Planning, Review of Parks Components of IR 2025. June 16 was recommended <br />by Commission. Agenda items for the June meeting will be shared with all involved so that everyone is <br />prepared for the meeting. <br />COMPREHENSIVE PLAN COMMITTEE UPDATE <br />Willmus updated the Commission on the activities of the Comprehensive Planning Committee. <br />• Most recent meeting focused on future land use definitions <br />• Committee reviewed overall zoning of areas and discussed how the City defines the areas — retail, <br />business, residential <br />• Presentations to be made to Commission in coming months; presentation will focus on the areas related <br />to the parks system. <br />Brokke commented that the recent Comp Plan Open House was well attended and there was high interest in <br />our Parks and Recreation System. <br />6. PATHWAY COMMITTEE REPORT <br />Sarah Brodt Lenz is the Parks and Recreation Commission representative on the Pathway Committee. She <br />updated the commission on the direction of the Committee. The Pathway Committee is scheduled to meet 4-5 <br />times with the intent to update the Pathway Master Plan. There is a link from the City Web Site to the Pathway <br />Master Plan. <br />Brokke briefed the Commission on the history of the Pathway Committee, The Committee was last active in <br />2003. <br />Continued <br />
