Beginner Range:
Purpose: To provide a range for beginners and for fun shooting opportunities for all
ages.
Target Audience: Primarily youth and families
Equipment: Bows less than 30 lbs; Target, field, rubber or blunt tips. Bow racks for
smaller bows and for shorter people and placed at least 3' behind the shooting line.
Shooting Positions: Variable but mostly standing ground positions.
Targets: Targets should be moveable to accommodate classes of a minimum of 10
shooters at a time. Targets should be 4' square or round and should be placed side by
side or from 12"-3' apart (depending on space available). All bullseye targets (8-10)
should be placed in moveable stands from 5-20 yards.
Shooting at fun targets (8-10) should be arranged so that multiple targets can be shot
from one location. Targets may resemble monsters, cartoon characters, or dinosaurs
and/or be 3D type targets and may include swinging or shooting gallery targets. These
should be placedat 5-20 yards to one side of the bullseye targets.
If space is available at the range, the fun shooting can be arranged similar to a
miniature golf course. Innovative use of Kevlar netting, earthen berms and wood or
synthetic fencing can be used to separate shooting lanes.
