ROSEVILLE PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION MINUTES OF MEETING OF JANUARY 3, 2008 ROSEVILLE CITY HALL ~ 6:30PM PRESENT: Hiber, Johnson, Kamrath, Pederson, Ristow, Stark, Willmus ABSENT: Brodt Lenz and Kendall notified staff ahead of time that they were unable to attend, Kruzel called following meeting to apologize for missing meeting STAFF: Brokke, Anfang INTRODUCTIONS/ROLL CALL/PUBLIC COMMENT 1. No Public Comment APPROVAL OF MINUTES – DECEMBER 4, 2007 MEETING 2. Commission Recommendation:. Minutes for the December 4, 2007 meeting were approved unanimously DEPARTMENT REVIEW 3. Jill Anfang briefed the Commission on recent department operations and upcoming and recently hosted events. EVOS VIDEO – NEW KIND OF PLAY STRUCTURE 4. Anfang shared 3 short product videos with the Commission to introduce newer concepts in play structures. The purpose for watching these videos was to see how play equipment has evolved and to begin exploring different options available and to talk about the destination park concept. The play structures presented in the videos were very different and very unique. EVOS is a structure that features multiple entry points and embraces physical activity and learning/problem solving skills. The Rock is a climbing structure that rises from the landscape and borders and combines environmental features as well as artistic appeal. Mobius is a climbing structure that uses modern design and flowing lines to challenge and attract users. Commission discussion followed the video presentations. Many commissioners voiced their interest in the EVOS system and the Rock. Mobius seemed to be a bit one dimensional and not as appealing as the others. Staff will continue to bring new industry products to the Commission for input. COMPREHENSIVE PLAN COMMITTEE REPORT 5. Willmus updated the Commission on the activities of the Comprehensive Planning Committee. Recently, committee members took part in an exercise that identified planning problems and assets. Committee members have asked to have materials previously recommended for removal from the report brought back in to the report. DIRECTOR’S REPORT 6. Thank you to everyone for participating in the Ethics Training session on Monday, December 10. Legislative Session Update. State Finance Director, House and Senate Capital Investment Committees have all toured o the Skating Center. Staff have been encouraged to add the Skating Center Geothermal project to the bill. o Geothermal Update Moving forward with the Arena Geothermal Project o Council approved further study to look at the long term implications for the use of o geothermal energy campus-wide. Council approved entering into an agreement with the Roseville engineering firm, Kargas o Faulconbridge Inc. (KFI)
