<br /> <br />ROSEVILLE PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION <br />MINUTES OF MEETING OF JANUARY 3, 2008 <br />ROSEVILLE CITY HALL ~ 6:30PM <br /> <br />PRESENT: <br /> Hiber, Johnson, Kamrath, Pederson, Ristow, Stark, Willmus <br />ABSENT: <br /> Brodt Lenz and Kendall notified staff ahead of time that they were unable to attend, Kruzel <br />called following meeting to apologize for missing meeting <br />STAFF: <br /> Brokke, Anfang <br /> <br /> INTRODUCTIONS/ROLL CALL/PUBLIC COMMENT <br />1. <br />No Public Comment <br /> <br /> APPROVAL OF MINUTES – DECEMBER 4, 2007 MEETING <br />2. <br />Commission Recommendation:. <br /> Minutes for the December 4, 2007 meeting were approved unanimously <br /> <br /> DEPARTMENT REVIEW <br />3. <br />Jill Anfang briefed the Commission on recent department operations and upcoming and recently hosted events. <br /> <br /> EVOS VIDEO – NEW KIND OF PLAY STRUCTURE <br />4. <br />Anfang shared 3 short product videos with the Commission to introduce newer concepts in play structures. <br />The purpose for watching these videos was to see how play equipment has evolved and to begin exploring <br />different options available and to talk about the destination park concept. The play structures presented in the <br />videos were very different and very unique. <br /> <br />EVOS is a structure that features multiple entry points and embraces physical activity and <br />learning/problem solving skills. <br /> <br />The Rock is a climbing structure that rises from the landscape and borders and combines environmental <br />features as well as artistic appeal. <br /> <br />Mobius is a climbing structure that uses modern design and flowing lines to challenge and attract users. <br /> <br />Commission discussion followed the video presentations. Many commissioners voiced their interest in the <br />EVOS system and the Rock. Mobius seemed to be a bit one dimensional and not as appealing as the others. <br /> <br />Staff will continue to bring new industry products to the Commission for input. <br /> <br /> COMPREHENSIVE PLAN COMMITTEE REPORT <br />5. <br />Willmus updated the Commission on the activities of the Comprehensive Planning Committee. <br /> <br />Recently, committee members took part in an exercise that identified planning problems and assets. <br /> <br />Committee members have asked to have materials previously recommended for removal from the <br />report brought back in to the report. <br /> <br /> DIRECTOR’S REPORT <br />6. <br /> <br />Thank you to everyone for participating in the Ethics Training session on Monday, December 10. <br /> <br />Legislative Session Update. <br /> <br />State Finance Director, House and Senate Capital Investment Committees have all toured <br />o <br />the Skating Center. <br /> <br />Staff have been encouraged to add the Skating Center Geothermal project to the bill. <br />o <br /> <br />Geothermal Update <br /> <br />Moving forward with the Arena Geothermal Project <br />o <br /> <br />Council approved further study to look at the long term implications for the use of <br />o <br />geothermal energy campus-wide. <br /> <br />Council approved entering into an agreement with the Roseville engineering firm, Kargas <br />o <br />Faulconbridge Inc. (KFI) <br /> <br />
