With an eye toward sustainability, the RHRA is best known for hosting the annual ÑLiving SmarterÒ Home & Garden Fair, but <br />the RHRA also advances projects that assist both businesses and home owners. <br />Green Building/Remodeling Award <br />And the 2013 Green Remodeling Award Goes to . . . Laurie Bennett & Ahi Bennuir of 2755 Merrill St. <br />Laurie and Ahi currently live in LaurieÔs maternal grand- <br />parentsÔ former home, and the extended Bennett family <br />has lived in Roseville since the 1930s. When faced with <br />the prospect of moving or remodeling Ï given the familyÔs <br />long history in the community Ï Laurie and Ahi elected to <br />remodel their 1953 rambler. They re nished a main oor <br />bath and nished three-quarters of the basement by adding <br />a bedroom, home theater, wet bar, and full spa bath! Lau- <br />rie & Ahi remodeled with an eye towards green practices, <br />using nger-jointed studs, salvaged lumber, and no-VOC <br />Before <br />paints and stains. Using the criteria of the Lot Replacement Program, RHRA <br />staff identi es properties that are functionally obsolete and works with the property owner <br />to purchase the property. Once the RHRA owns the property, the buildings are razed and a <br />Build Your <br />builder or homeowner builds a sustainable home designed to complement the neighborhood <br />Dream Home <br />and meet the guidelines established by the RHRA. The RHRA recently completed the pur- <br />Here! <br />chase of a property and is seeking a buyer/builder for the lot, which is located at 1840 Ham- <br />line Avenue. E-mail hra@ci.roseville.mn.us or call 651-792-0786. <br />Connecting with Roseville Businesses <br />In 2013 the RHRA Board launched a Business Retention & Expansion program, the rst step of which was carried out by a task force <br />made up of people who live/work in Roseville and several local organizations. Task force members visited 41 non-retail businesses and <br />asked owners to complete a survey to learn what their concerns are, if they have any plans to expand, and how the City could sup- <br />port their needs in the ever-changing economic climate. The <br />U-MN Extension Center for Community Vitality compiled <br />BR&E Strategies <br />the survey results in a report and presented their ndings <br />€ Enhance, Promote & Develop the <br />Roseville Business Environment <br />to the task force in February.
