.----

----------------------------------------------------

Roseville Fire Department

Internal Memo

'1'0: Chief Jim Bodsgard
From : Terry Wagner
Date: March 17, 1996

Subject: Owasso Hills construction drive thru

Per your request on Sunday Mar. 17 I drove both the j;e~ ~~~:~e 732
and ladder 728 on the streets of the Owasso Hills devE-~:-;;-7.E-:-.-= :.~
order to see if the center islands on both the entrar:,-:,&:?, 2~j c:'.;J.-
de-sacs wou1d create a problem for Fire Apparatus tr: i7,: .'j" ~ ~ ~:,
and I have found the following results.

On entering off of Dale Street to both Terrace Drive, a~j O~ass8
Hills Drive in order to make the right turn the driver ~;:~s: be
hugging the center line on Dale Street, and cut it sharp, a~6 ~~g
the left curb on the center island the right wheels ...::L:. miss
jumping the right curb. On making left turns into the st:-eE-:s
with center islands I found the reverse to be true. You have to
hug the right curb cutting it sharply hugging the right c'jrb on
entrance, and the left wheels should miss jumping the curb. :~:.s
is especially important on the ladder trucks. I did not have a
. chance to make a right turn from S. Owasso Blvd. where it tur:;s
into Western onto the streets might be very difficult due to the
fact that making the swing on the streets with the curves w~ere
Western and S. Owasso Blvd. meet.

On the subject of the center islands in the cul-de-sacs it; ~
possible to turn around by hugging the right curb going slow2.y
constantly watching both mirrors, and adjusting accordir;gly, but
it is very difficult especially with the ladder truck. Toward the
end of the turn I thought I was going to have to either back up or
jump the curb, but I didn't. This maneuver was perfcr:.1ed 0:; a
cul-de-sac with out any cars parked on it. We tried it on a cul-
de-sac with cars parked on a street, and found that you ca!:!1ot
turn around with out either jumping the curb or backing ~p and
adjusting the vechile 1 or 2 times with both the engine a:ld the
ladder. I'm also afaird if we have enough cars on the street ir:
the right position it may be impossible to drive up to t~e ~0~ses
on the end of the cul-de-sac especially with the ladders.
