.

.Page two

iii. all know that the use o~ local lakes has becOllle acre and JIIOre
popular. As more people use the lake, the iDCfividual uses oL the
lake must becOllle more and more ~ssive. It is just simple
ar.ithmetic that i~ there are teD boats em the lake, eacl1 with
horsepover in excess o~ 100 horsepower, the lake becomes crowded.
However, you can put two or three hundred canoes em the lake and the
lake is not crowded.

Adding a new slalOlll course to the south eDd o~ the lake would
intimidate many uses of the lake sucb as fisbing, swimming, sailing
and canoeing and other passive uses. Also, there is another use o~
the lake that ve sOllletimes overlook. That use is simply looking at
the lake and enjoying the sereDity and the surrounding scenery.
Tbat is a legitimate use o~ the lake. Thes. passive uses are
clearly .intimidated by very few people rwming a boating club and
reserving a large area of the lake ~or their so-called slalOlll
course.

CarmeD Bell

At the present time we are not advocating the abolition o~ all
outboard motors. Tbere is a legit.imate use for them on Lake OVasso
and it can accommodate many o~ them.

However, Lake OVasso cannot tolerate an additional slalOlll course.
The so-called 300-foot rule now in Roseville apparently prohibits
the use o~ the South end of the lake as a slalOlll cours.. llie
there~ore request that the City Council take no action and leave the
present ordinance as .it is.

llie would also recommend that the City Council pass a resolution
urging the state legislature to assign to appropriate bodies o~
gov.rnment complete regulation o~ the lake. ffhether this be the
local mW1ici~lity or the local counties, it should be a body that
is sensi ti ve to and represented by the hOllleOWDers and other uers o~
the lake. I~ Rosev.ille bad the pover now apparently given to the
Sberif~ our requests migbt be di~~erent.

Very truly yours,

~~

cc: Ne.igbbors
Senator Jo.hn Marty
Representative Mjndy Greiling
Ramsey County Sheriff's o~~ice

~ OO~\'{ ~\A\~~C\\e~~~\\S
