fiLe,
-

REQUEST FOR CITY COUNCIL ACTION

DATE: 11-25-96
ITEM NO.: F-l

Departmental Approval:

Manager Received:

~'

Agenda Section:
Reports and
Recommendations

Item Description: Communication Towers

Background:

· Authority: Towers owned by City are permitted uses in "B" and "I" zones but
require a Conditional Use Permit (CUP) in all other zones.

. APT has requested City permission to license, zone, and construct a multi-user
mono-pole at Dale Street Fire Station site. This site is zoned "R". The Code
requires a hearing and a CUP even if the City owns the site.

. The School District and City have had preliminary discussions about multi-user
towers to be placed on school district property directly adjacent to Highway 36 at
the High School and at Parkview School. There may be financial and physical
benefit to such a joint location. More discussion is necessary with the School
District.

. In order for APT to begin the CUP process, APT needs City Council permission
since the City owns the Dale Street site.

Staff Recommendation:

Staff recommends continuing the APT request for permission to begin the CUP process
on the Dale Street Fire Station site until December 16. This would allow time for the
City Manager to meet with School District officials regarding joint tower sites on school
property.

Suggested Council Action:

1. Motion to continue consideration of APT's request until December 16, 1996.

Staff Report by: Michael Falk, City Planner (490-2236)

1
