REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION Date: 08/11/14 Item No.: 7.i Department Approval City Manager Approval Item Description: Consider Approving IT Shared Service Agreement with the City of Fridley B ACKGROUND 1 Minnesota State Statute 471.59 authorizes political subdivisions of the State to enter into joint powers 2 agreements (JPA) or shared services agreements for the joint exercise of powers that are common to each. 3 Over the past several months, the City of Fridley and the City of Roseville have held on-going discussions 4 in regards to the sharing of the City’s internet connection. Our current internet connection has excess 5 capacity and by partnering with the City of Fridley we have the opportunity to capture a revenue source to 6 offset our own costs. 7 8 The Council is asked to consider authorizing an agreement for the purposes of sharing the City’s internet 9 connection. 10 11 The City of Roseville currently employs twelve full-time employees and one part-time employee to 12 administer the information systems for the City of Roseville and 33 other municipal and governmental 13 agencies. 14 15 The attached Shared Service Agreement has been approved by the City of Fridley and is awaiting approval 16 from the Roseville City Council. 17 PO OLICYBJECTIVE 18 Joint cooperative ventures are consistent with past practices as well as the goals and strategies outlined in 19 the Imagine Roseville 2025 process. 20 FI INANCIALMPACTS 21 The proposed agreement provides non-tax revenues to support City operations.
