05/30/1997 15:32

5124257249

i
I
I
May 3D, 1997 i
I
Dear members of the Minor Variance cotmiuee:

We would like to put forward our request or two variances so that we may proceed wtth
our addition on 2679 Galtier Street.

This addition will make it possible for ourlfamilY of four to reside with my mother, Olive
Johnson, Mom is a recent widow who S~ers from AlzheImer's Disease. We plan to
care for her in the family home in which s e has resided for the last 42 years. The eight
neighbors whose houses adjoin the pro rty have all expressed their approval, in
writing, of our housing plans, I
I
Our plans are to move to Galtier on June 127th, when we close on our home in White
Bear Lake. The sooner the addition can be completed, the better.

The first variance deals with the garage, hich was buitt in approximately 1960, and
does not meet the current code for distan from the lot line. Please note that all the
garages in this neighborhood have been aid out in an identical fashion. The garage is
in excellent condition and has been well- aintained, as has the house. It would be
extremely inconvenient to try to move the garage.

The second variance is so that we may te Mom's kitchen to accommodate more
than one cook! This requires pushing th wall out toward the backyard. which also
brings the house closer to the garage th n the code permits. This design has been
especially laid out with the needs of an AI heimer patient in mind and it would be a
tremendous hardship for our family to ha~ the plans re-thought and re-drawn,
i
It is crucial for the well-being of Mom and lour family to have this addition completed
quickly. A$ you may be aware, an indiVi~ual suffering from Alzheimer's does much
better in a familiar environment and havi~ her home disturbed as we have waited for
this committee meeting has been most difficult Please help us.
i
We are. unfortunately, unable to attend t~e meeting, but our builder, Mr, Paul Husnik
will be there to represent us and answer ~uestions. -JI
Thank you for you time and consideratio~
,
I

d: I~S~rl.

Greg and Laurie Skorczewski (PF#2917)1
