August 2, 1997

Terri Frye
1520 Brenner Ave.
Roseville, MN 55113
633-1096

To: Kim L Lee, AICP
Minor Variance Committee

RE: Minor Variance Request - Detached Garage at 3040 Snelling
Avenue N (PF#2943)

Mr. Krutchen asked me to sign a release form so that he could
build a garage. He needed to turn it in the next day at noon
or he would have to wait a month to build his garage. I am
ashamed to admit I did not ask any questions. I thought it was
nice that they were going to have a garage. I didn/t even read
the form. Mr. Krutchen did not mention that he was asking for
a variance. Since his visit I started to worry about the
garage. These are some of my concerns.
1. My backyard is very small and narrow I have cut down small
trees and bushes to bring in some sunlight but it is very dark.
Having a garage next to my fence will make it even darker. My
patio doors, deck and familyroom windows all overlook the spot
that will become a garage.
2. Because my backyard is so narrow I am concerned about
runoff into my yard, flowerbeds and the familyroom addition.

I did not see the plans for the garage. Saturday I went over
to the Krutchen/s house to ask them about these concerns but
they had already left on vacation. Unfortunately, I did not
know about this meeting in time to change my plans. I am going
to be in Evanston, Illinois, visiting my mother who was just
released from the hospital. The Krutchen/s yard looks big
enough to build the garage without putting it so close to my
property. They did not mention why they did not want to build
an attached garage but that would certainly solve the problem.

I do not want to stop this family from having a new garage but
I do hope that the variance committee does look into how very
close it will be to my home.

Needless to say I have learned to read and ask questions! I
will try to call Kim Lee on Tuesday to talk about my concerns.

Thank you,

rf~1r

1
