Date:Sept.8,2014 <br />Item:5.a <br />Hispanic Heritage Month <br />September 15 - October 15, 2014 <br />Whereas <br />: The City of Roseville recognizes and honors contributions of all members of our <br />community; and <br />Whereas <br />: September 15 is the anniversary of independence for five Latin American <br />countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua; and Mexico achieved <br />independence on September 16; and Chile achieved independence on September 18; and <br />Whereas <br />: In 1988 the United States Congress adopted a resolution designating September <br />15 to October 15 of each year as National Hispanic Heritage Month; and <br />Whereas <br />: Hispanic Americans bring a rich cultural heritage representing many countries, <br />ethnicities and religious traditions which contribute to America’s future; and <br />Whereas <br />: The Hispanic community has a long history of contributions in language, history, <br />music, arts, written words, education, sports, discoveries and other areas; and <br />Whereas <br />: The City of Roseville invites all members of the community to celebrate 2014 <br />Hispanic Heritage Month “Hispanics: A legacy of History, a Present of Action and a Future of <br />Success;” and <br />Whereas <br />:During National Hispanic Heritage Month, the United States celebrates the <br />culture and traditions of Spanish speaking residents who trace their roots to Spain, Mexico, <br />Central America, South America and the Caribbean. <br />Now, Therefore Be It Resolved <br />, that the City Council hereby proclaim September 15 to <br />October 15, 2014 to be Hispanic Heritage Month in the City of Roseville, County of Ramsey, <br />State of Minnesota, U.S.A <br />In Witness Whereof <br />, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the City of Roseville <br />to be affixed this eighth day of September 2014. <br />________________________ <br />Mayor Daniel J.
