WORK SESSION AGENDA ITEM NO. 4-C

TO:
FROM:
DATE:

Steve Sarkozy, City Manager
Cathy Bennett, Economic Development Specialist
June 9, 1998

RE:

SENIOR HOUSING STUDY PROGRESS REPORT

The City of Roseville, through Health Planning & Management Resources, Inc, is in the process of
conducting a senior housing market study. The study, per Council approval on March 10, 1998, is
intended to help the City understand what is needed to accommodate the senior population in the
community and help develop and optimum mix of housing types and age groups for a vibrant first
ring, mature suburb, understand the saturation point for senior housing and what the options are for
the City if the senior market diminishes and the senior units stand vacant.

It was the intention to have Pat McCullough with Health Planning provide the Council with a draft
of the study results at the work session on June 15. The majority of the study is currently
complete. Prior to making the fmal recommendations, we would like to incorporate the findings of
the community survey relating to senior housing. In addition, we would like to incorporate the
data developed by John Carpenter's current data relating to specific Roseville population and
dwelling status. Therefore, Pat McCullough will provide a progress report to the Council at the
work session that will provide an overview of the following topics included in the study.

. Selected demographic infonnation about Roseville's senior population
. Significant conclusions from the six community focus groups
. Current inventory, occupancy status, price and market draw for Roseville and surrounding
communities
. Preliminary list of issues
. Description of additional data needed to conclude the study

Staff would like the council members to identify questions and concerns related to senior housing
based upon the progress report so that we can incorporate them into the final report.

Cc: Dennis Welsch

Q:\Housing\Scnior StudyIprog. rpl memo.doc
