The probe was suspended on a rope, which
was marked at 2,4 and 6 feet.. The water depth was measured by lowering the gallon jug
until the rope slackened and the depth was read.

Twenty-eight measurements were made on the three sub-basins of the lake. The nOM
sub-basin is about 2.5 feet. The middle section is at its deepest 4 feet as is the south sub.
basin. The northwest comet of the latter, which has allegedly been deepened by Mr.
Hebe in about 1955 to about 15 feet, is 40 feet from the shore only 4 feet deep.

The nonh pool was untiJ 1996 completely oovered with the water lilies. That year DNR
applied a herbicide and some 65 percent of the lilies were eliminated as detet'mined by
visual inspection. The water lilies invaded the middle section in about 1991 and are
spreading every year. Water lily pads were observed in four feet. deep water.

It's notewonhy that the water ~f Langton Lake as detennined by the DNR in 1962
was only 6 feet. Then again in 1915it was found to be five feet, (see enclosed copies of
those reports). Now in 1998 the deepest water is only 4 feet.

The trend is obvious: from 6 to 4 feet in 36 years. Henceforth, the process will accelerate,
because since 1988 the nutrient-ric;h stonn"5eWer water has been directed into the lake.
Thus, besides accumulation of decaying plantst water.bom silt and leaves will promote the
continued filling of Langton Lake.

Respeafu11y yours, '/ d fhr-
Yul YOst (Research Chemist, ret.)
