Like
many shoreline ov.rneTS experiencing severe and unique erosion problems, the M:N DNR
recommended Mr. Kadrie seek technical assistance trom the district. Because of its i
geographic location on' the lake, the Kadrie shoreline presented some unique challenges to I
I design. Routine ice jacking, steep slope, and trees prevented utilizing tra.ditionalloose rip- I'
, ra.p as a shoreline protection prac1ice. A combination of strategically placed bio-engineered I
~getatiolJ and boulder revetment was utilized.. '---J

V The district assisted the Salvation A.rmy a.t its Silver Lake Camp with the restoration of a
gully that was depositing sediment directly into Silver Lake. The gully was of such massive
dimensions that it hid the existence of an auto that had crashed into it . The gully developed
over a period of about one decade and was the result of uncontrolled stormwater runoff
from adjace:1t residential streets and a county roadway. The dist..ict's engineering team
designed the conservation practice and provided construction supervision. In addition to
technical assistance, the district provided ap~roximateJy $15,000 in cost-share assistance
toward the project.

,
!
J i

.
