Use design to make places safer, create amenities and improve livability. <br /> <br />FUNDING GOALS AND CATEGORIES <br /> <br />The Metropolitan Council encourages development patterns that are appropriate in <br />different parts of the region, including mixed-use development within walking distance of <br />transit, where available, and in other locations; mixed residential development in the urban <br />area, and cluster housing in the urban reserve. These development patterns, and the <br />locations where they are appropriate, are reflected in the funding categories described <br />below. <br /> <br />Funding proposals may be in these categories: <br /> <br />(Different locations are identified within each category; some of the criteria vary by location. <br />Categories and locations are also listed on a separate attachment with a reference map). <br /> <br />Category A: Compact transit-oriented development. redevelopment or infill that has <br />a mix of uses. including housing: <br /> <br />o Compact, mixed-use transit-oriented development, redevelopment or infi\! <br />proposals located within t mile of regular route transit stops, or within an area <br />that will be served by regular route transit service within two to three years. <br />(Regular route service operates on fixed routes and a predetermined schedule). <br /> <br />Locations: Area 1: Minneapolis, St. Paul and first-ring suburbs, Area 2: Developing <br />Urban Communities. <br /> <br />CateQory B: Compact development. redevelopment or infill that has a mix of uses. <br />including housing: <br /> <br />o Compact, mixed-use development, redevelopment or infill development that is <br />not served by regular route transit service, and will not be served by regular <br />route transit service within two to three years. <br /> <br />Locations: Area 1: Minneapolis, St. Paul and first-ring suburbs, Area 2: Developing <br />Urban Communities, Area 3: Rural Growth Centers. <br /> <br />4 <br /> <br />. . , <br />
