--------

Date: May 3, 2000 Item: G-2
To; Steve Sarkozy
From: Greg Peterson, Deputy Chief
Re: Instructor of the Year Award

At the request of chief Gasaway, the following is a synopsis of the recent recognition that
I received.

I was a member of the Falcon Heights Fire Department for nine years and served many
roles. When I left the department I was the l5t Assistant Chief. I then returned to my
hometown and joined the Roseville Fire Department in 1997. I was appointed to the
position of Deputy Chief of Training this past November.

I was awarded the instructor of the year award by the Fire Instructor Association of
Minnesota (flAM) for my achievements as a Fire Instructor. The award is presented on
an annual basis to one instructor from the state of Minnesota for their professionalism in
training.

I have been an instructor for over 12 years and this is the first award I have received for
my training efforts. I was nominated for the award by a fellow firefighter and at first was
unaware of my candidacy. As a candidate, my nomination was reviewed by the Fire
Instructor of the year Committee assembled by FIAM to review all potential award
recipients before making their decision. I was then notified on February 26th that I was
the award winner and received the award on February 19th, 2000.

flAM was formed in 1969 and currently has a membership of nearly a 1,000 members
from the United States to Canada, with the majority being from Minnesota. flAM has
bestowed the Instructor of the Year A ward since 1979, and I am the first member of the
RoseviIle fire Department to receive this award.
