The League of Minnesota Cities does not do grants but they have a civility program and could provide their information. The Roseville Library would also be discussing this at their next meeting for potentially partnering with the HRC. Freedom County has a civility program called “True Civility – The Power of Words” and they are several years into the program. Their program is based on the book “Choosing Civility.” It was recognized that this book could be a good choice for a community-wide read. She asked if the Commission was interested in moving forward with this type of program. Ms. Collins stated the Roseville Community Fund would give up to $2,500 and is one of those programs that if you get the funds then you can plan. The application deadline is August 23 and she thought the funds would need to be used before the end of the year. Commissioner Carey asked if this would provide enough time to promote the event. Commissioner Singleton entered the meeting at 7:05 p.m. Vice Chair Becker stated this would be a short time line and December is a difficult time of year to host this type of event with the holiday schedules. He did like the idea and felt the HRC would want to promote the human relationship versus the digital interactions. He would not recommend cost sharing with other communities because this will make coordinating the event difficult. He suggested Ms. Collins look at the time frame for when the Roseville Community Fund grant would have to be used if granted. Youth Commissioner Dao asked if it would be possible to break it down into smaller sessions and conduct it more like a continual dialogue by hosting one or two topics at a time. Chair Groff suggested talking to the Rotary Club for potential funding. He stated this type of event would be difficult to do by the end of the year, especially if they needed a minimum of 40 people. If the Commission gets the grant and has some time to use it then they would be able to coordinate the event. He recommended Commissioner Carey submit the application for the Roseville Community Fund grant. Commissioner Singleton moved and Commissioner Slade seconded a motion to direct Commissioner Carey to proceed with the Roseville Community Fund application and to conduct The motion carried unanimously. additional research for the next meeting. d.League of Minnesota Annual Meeting Update Chair Groff stated the meeting was scheduled for October 25 or October 26. There is not space at the Roseville Public Library or City Hall. The Maplewood Library has room but they would not book more than 60 days in advance. They will have a speaker and they were also considering having something to do with the medical issues that have come up from illnesses that have come from overseas and how communities need accurate information in these situations. He stated he would attend the next League meeting for additional information.
