<br />03/09/00 <br /> <br />C. Following the installation of native grass seed, wildflower seed should be sown in a separate <br />procedure by hand or with a mechanical spreader. The specified seed mixes should be sown <br />even 1;, throughout the specified areas. <br /> <br />D. Cultipacking should follow wildflower seeding to press the tiny seeds into the seedbed. <br /> <br />3.04 MULCHING <br /> <br />A. The planted areas should be mulched with clean oat, wheat or little bluestem prairie straw at a <br />rate of 2 tons per acre. <br /> <br />B. Mulch material shall be anchor disked immediately after being applied to depth of I inch. <br /> <br />3.05 PROTECTION <br /> <br />A. Erect temporary barricades and warning signs against pedestrian and vehicular traffic. <br /> <br />3.06 CLEANING <br /> <br />A. Immediately, clean spills from paved and finished surface areas. <br /> <br />B. Remove debris and excess materials from project site. <br /> <br />C. Dispose of protective barricades and warning signs at completion of general contract. <br /> <br />D. All areas disturbed by seeding operation shall be restored to original condition or to the <br />desired new condition. <br /> <br />.3.07 MAINTENANCE <br /> <br />A. First Growing Season <br /> <br />1. Seeded areas shall be mowed as needed to control annual weed development. Cutting <br />height should be between 5 and 8 inches, but not less than 5 inches. <br /> <br />2. Hand weed to eliminate invader noxious weeds. <br /> <br />B. Second Growing Season <br /> <br />During the spring (April) of the second growing season, all areas seeded with prairie grasses and <br />wildflowers should receive a controlled burn. This should be done using all necessary <br />equipment, permits and trained personnel to conduct a safe and affective controlled burn. In <br />addition to spring burning the prairie areas should be monitored and cared for throughout this <br />second growing season. . <br /> <br />C. Subsequent Growing Season - Not in Contract <br /> <br />In years following the first and second growing seasons, management services might include <br />controlled burning, and possibly some additional spot spraying, spot mowing and hand weeding <br />as needed. It is of great importance to monitor and care for a native plant community restoration <br />during its development period.
