Building Addition to MnDOT Metro
Division Office Building, 1500 W. Cty Rd. B-2, Roseville

From:
Sent:
To:
Cc:

Dennis,
Thank you for the update. I have received a copy of the comments from
the City regarding the parking lot excavation permit from the
contractor. I will try to address the comments, but if you need more
information or wish to discuss anything in more detail, please let me
know and I will arrange.

1. Erosion control must be in place prior to construction.

We agree. The contractor has installed perimeter silt fence already.
Liz Benjamin, our construction Engineer for the project, will ensure
that proper erosion control measures are taken.

2. Screening of parking lot to residential areas across B-2 is required.
3. Landscaping parking areas required.

We separated out the parking from the main building construction so that
the new parking would be available to employees before the building
construction impacted the existing parking. However, we left the
landscaping in the building plan so that any disturbance the building
contract may make to the site would be restored by them. I apologize
for not getting these sheets for you to see with the parking plan. The
Building plan sets are being printed and you should have a complete set
by the end of the week. Screening of the parking from the residential
area and landscaping in the parking area is included with the building
plan.

4. Sod versus seed required.
We have specified the use of native seeding for infiltration, water
treatment and to create a more natural looking environment. This was
discussed at design review meetings with the City staff and I thought
had been positively received. Unfortunately, this means that sod can not
be used. Erosion control blankets are being used in native-seeded areas
in swales and around the pond. It won't give an immediate finished look
like sod would, but will prevent erosion. Bonnie Peterson, from our
Water resources group, can answer any questions that you may have.
