L

Hamline House Condominium
2800 Hamline Av N #340
Roseville, MN 55113
October ie, 2000
30

/-" . c.o VNC/ /
00f/
Qa~d~
I \ \ 't \to

Mayor John Kysylyczyn and
Members of the City Council of Rose vi lie
2660 Civic Center Drive
~sev";ile, WiN ~~11~

Mayor Kysylyczyn and Council Members:

I am happy to see that the City Council's vote against the proposed move of a bingo hall to the Hamline
Center has not been finalized. There are a number of people living in the Hamline House, the
condominium across the street rrom the Hamline Shopping fenter, who are NOT opposed to the bingo hall.
Some things we have heard and read recently make it appef that the whole neighborhood is opposed to the
bingo hall, when in fact, many are in favor of it.

That is, of course, if this group is giving accurate numbers. I believe they said there are approximately 75
cars at the Knights of Columbus Hall at anyone time, I and a mend went to the present bingo hall in the
Knights of Columbus Building on Friday evening, Oct. 27.At 8:45 pm there were 100 plus cars in that lot.
There appeared to be more than enough cars to fill Hamline's lot, but then, the proposed tenants did say
there was parking in the rear of Hamline Mall. I hope this parking issue is sufficiently investigated by
someone other than the proposed tenants. (There were fewer cars at the bingo hall for the 9:00 shift, and
fewer yet for the 11,00 game.)

I do not understand the objections rrom neighbors about increased traffic and how it would endanger the
children in the neighborhood. The Hamline Mall is a business property, How does one run a business
without traffic?

If there is reason for concern, it should be more for the new tenants of the HamlineMalL Would the rehab
of this space be adequate for a bingo hall? Many of us remember how the previous tenants, the grocery
store owners, had to put buckets out for drips every time it rained. Would this area of the mall be kept in
better repair for the new tenants?

Of course some of us would prefer to see a Land's End Inlet store and/or a Dollar Tree Store in this space,
but if such stores are not possible, a bingo hall is just fine by me - if it is properly determined that is fits
the space.

Sincerely, ,

I C)k cv~.
