<br /> <br />August 8, 2000 <br /> <br />Mr. Hongru Shen <br />1849 Eldridge Avenue <br />Roseville, MN 55113 <br /> <br />REo' Proposed porch addition. <br /> <br />.... . <br />'. .,,.:: <br /> <br />Dear Mr. Shen: <br /> <br />Based on our conversation of August 7, 2000, I have reviewed the Rosevil1e City Code regarding <br />your inq:uiry about a front porch addition and have the following comments: <br /> <br />~ The required front yard setback for an attached covered porch in 30 feet from a property <br />line. <br /> <br />~ _ Based on information obtained through the City's computer system your existing home <br />__appears to be setback 30 feet from the front property line. <br />,J.';":~'''.''~~.I',,,'''''<I <br /> <br />., <br /> <br />~ A Setback Permit can be applied for to allow an encroachment of up to six feet into the <br />required 30 foot front yard setback. Su,bmittalof a completed application and appropriate <br />attachments are necessary (see attachments). This process requires a hearing and <br />determination by ~he Development Review Committee and takes approximately three <br />weeks to complete. <br /> <br />- , <br /> <br />~ . An encroachment greater than six feet would require a variance. This process takes <br />approximately 60 days and requires a hearing and recommendation by the Planning <br />Commission, and approval by the City Council. <br /> <br />~ The fax you provided of the proposed porch could potentially be integrated into you <br />home. However, at a minimum it appears that a setback permit would be necessary. <br /> <br />In summary, the porch would be a nice addition to your home, but may require a special process <br />and consideration. The City suggests you locate your property corner pins and determine the <br />distance from your front property line to your home.
