Roseville, Minnesota 55113. As the neighbor to the west of
this property we have concerns about the design of the porch and the fact that it will further add to the
impervious area on the property. We do tmderstand that this existed prior to 1999 but it does reflect the
fact that the amount of impervious coverage already well exceeds todays 30% lot coverage standard.

We built our home in 1992, the same period when Mr Shen's home was being built along with the rest of
the 14 homes on our street. We designed an open front porch across the front of our house and
approached the city about placing the front porch that would have encroached 5 feet beyond the front
setback line and starting our house at the line. Our request was denied. We tmderstand that the city had
an opportunity at that time to line up all the new homes on our street. We have a table, chairs and other
furniture on our porch which is used daily for eating, reading, the kids playing or just relaxing. We enjoy
it as an extension of our home and not just an architectural detaiL From the design submitted we are
unable to tell if this will be an enclosed porchlentryway. No side view was submitted. Even if this is an
open sided porch we feel the extension of the roof line and the height of the porch - (this property has 10'
main floor) will obstruct the view uom our porch down the street. We are unable to tell how far out the
roof line might actually extend- over 5 feet perhaps.

We feel the addition of some architectural detail could enhance the uont of the property and give it a
more residentia1100k rather than the schoolJdaycare that resides at this property but maybe this could be
done without extending further out to the uont. We would definitely not support a fully enclosed porch-
entryway with the sides being constructed on the top step since it would ruinlblock the view from our
property. We would hope the city desires to keep all the homes on our street at the proper setback line so
that we can continue to enjoy the view from our front porch down the street which is what we thought
would be the case when we built our home. We would hope that this property would not have any further
encroachments since there maybe other options that need to be reviewed first.

Sincerely,

Ed ~ ~~

Ed and Barb Cmmingham
