REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />Date: October 20, 2014 <br /> Item No.: 10.a <br />Department Approval City Manager Approval <br />Item Description: Minnesota Department of Transportation Area Manager Presentation <br />B <br />ACKGROUND <br />1 <br />Sheila Kauppi from Mn/DOT will be making a short presentation on upcoming Mn/DOT projects in the area <br />2 <br />over the next few years. Sheila became our Area Manager in July of this year when Wayne Norris, our <br />3 <br />previous Area Manager, retired. Sheila is the Area Manager for all of Ramsey and Anoka counties. She <br />4 <br />was the Area Manager for Dakota County prior to this position. <br />5 <br />Sheila will be joined by Mike Kruse who will give a more detailed presentation on the upcoming Trunk <br />6 <br />Highway 36 bridge replacement project at Lexington Avenue. This project has been planned for a few years <br />7 <br />and has been delayed in order to avoid the I-35E project. It is currently scheduled for the 2016 construction <br />8 <br />season and will involve the closure of Lexington Avenue under TH 36 for several months. <br />9 <br />PO <br />OLICYBJECTIVE <br />10 <br />Mn/DOT maintains and operates roadways within its jurisdiction to provide regional transportation <br />11 <br />connections across the state. Mn/DOT regularly updates its State Transportation Improvement Plan <br />12 <br />(STIP) which details which projects will be funded over the next 5 years. In the Metro area the STIP is <br />13 <br />influenced and approved by the Metropolitan Council to reflect the spending of Federal dollars in the <br />14 <br />Twin Cities metropolitan area. <br />15 <br />FI <br />INANCIALMPACTS <br />16 <br />None proposed at this time.
