Human Rights Commission Minutes <br />September 17, 2014 <br />Page 7 of 10 <br /> <br />Ms. Collins stated Chair Groff, Commissioner Bachhuber, and Commissioner Carey had <br />requested seats for the event. There were still five (5) seats available and she would need to <br />provide names to KOM as soon as possible. <br /> <br />Commissioner Slade requested to attend the event <br /> <br />Commissioner Thao requested to attend the event. <br /> <br />Commissioner Singleton requested to attend the event. <br /> <br />Youth Commissioner Cederberg stated he would check his schedule and let Ms. Collins know. <br /> <br />Vice Chair Becker stated he would discuss this with Youth Commissioner Dao. <br /> <br />Ms. Collins requested to attend the event. She stated she would send the details to everyone <br />attending. <br /> <br /> <br />f.HRC Human Rights Awards <br /> <br />Commissioner Bachhuber stated she had met with Commissioner Singleton and Commissioner <br />Slade to discuss establishing an award, what other cities have used for nomination forms and the <br />parameters that could be used. The Commission had previously discussed having this type of <br />award coincide with the Essay Award. She stated some cities have awards for particular <br />activities but she would recommend keeping this general at this time in order to ensure <br />nominations for the award. There could be a significant amount of reading for this event and the <br />Commission may want to consider doing this separately from the essay contest. She stated the <br />parameters for nominations could be open to individuals, businesses or organizations excluding <br />the Commission and their family members. <br /> <br />Commissioner Slade stated she would be in favor of keeping the nominations open and get the <br />program started. The program can be expanded in the future to include different categories in <br />necessary. <br /> <br />Commissioner Thao asked what the award recipients would receive and how many awards <br />would be given out each year. <br /> <br />Commissioner Bachhuber stated the specifics of the program have not been determined yet. The <br />Commission had discussed a certificate and she would recommend keeping the number of <br />recipients open at this time by stating numerous awards would be given out. <br /> <br />Commissioner Singleton stated the Committee would be meeting again prior to making a final <br />recommendation to the Commission. <br /> <br />Commissioner Bachhuber asked Commissioners to provide feedback through Ms. Collins. <br /> <br /> <br />
