REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION Date: October 27, 2014 Item No.: 7.j Department Approval City Manager Approval Item Description: Extension of Contract for Waste Removal from City of Roseville Public Facilities B ACKGROUND 1 The waste removal contract for city facilities expires at the end of this year. Staff has received a 2 letter from Nitti Sanitation, the contract holder, offering an extension of the current contract. 3 The current contract has an optional three year extension clause for service through 2017 by 4 mutual agreement. Staff has received a letter from Nitti Sanitation, the contract holder, offering 5 an extension of the current contract. Nitti Sanitation has offered this extension with a two 6 percent increase in total cost for the next three years. The industry is trending with a three 7 percent increase for 2015. This offer forgoes any increase for years two and three of the contract 8 extension. 9 The specifications require regular service at city hall, public works garage, fire station, golf 10 course, skating center, and four locations in Central Park. Nitti has provided a letter committing 11 all trash collected from city facilities will be sent to a resource recovery facility as required 12 rather than a landfill. 13 FI INANCIALMPACTS 14 The extension of this service contract falls within the 2015 preliminary budget for this service. 15 We have found no evidence to indicate a benefit to the city to go out to bid at this time given 16 tipping fee increases projected at this time for 2015. The funding for waste removal is included 17 in departmental budgets.
