I came away from the meeting with a
greater understanding of crematories and an even stronger feeling that they should not be
sited in a residential area,

The proposed Conditional Use Permit should be denied due to the affect it will have on
public health, safety, and welfare. Specifically, the following issues make it a threat:

- Uncontrolled and unknown levels of dioxins, furans, and other contaminants
will be emitted less than Y2 mile from our water storage reservoir and pose an
unacceptable risk to our city water supply.
- Close proximity of wetlands would result in high risk of mercury contamination
in Lake McCarrons to the point where fish could not be eaten.
- As proposed, the crematory smoke stack design would pose an unacceptable
health risk to neighbors, some of which would be within 250 feet of the stack.
- Public safety would be threatened by hazardous road conditions. During certain
conditions in winter, the large amount of heat and moisture produced could
create black ice on Larpenteur Avenue-exposing the city to possible lawsuits.
- Incineration of radioactive medical implants produces compounds too
dangerous to release in close proximity to where people live.

On Monday evening, it appeared the City Council is prepared to reject the proposal. I
trust all of you to follow through by denying the request for a conditional use permit
without exposing the city to undue future litigation. Thank you for listening.

Sincerely,

?!::;i;---

(0\
'1'6-} .
