July 24, 2001

Dear Roseville Resident:

Thank you for attending and presenting your concerns regarding the land use request by
Roselawn Cemetery. On Monday, July 23, 2001, the Roseville City Council continued the
request by Roselawn Cemetery for a conditional use permit (CUP) to allow the construction of a
crematory facility on their premises. The continuation was based on seeking additional
information to determine the magnitude of the potential health risks from the proposed
crematoria, particularly from mercury, nitrogen oxide, hydrogen chloride, dioxins, furans and
radioactive waste.

The City Council is seeking information pertaining to scientific studies or evidence regarding
emissions from crematories dealing with:

· Artificial hips, other artificial joints or prostheses, and cements, adhesives, and other
materials used in those medical procedures.

· Radioactive implants or devices used in the treatment of cancer or other diseases or
dysfunctions.

· Scientific studies or evidence relating to the impact of crematoria emissions on nearby
bodies of drinking water, water treatment plants, wetlands, lakes, crematory or cemetery
employees, or adjacent residential areas.

· Any other scientific studies or evidence bearing on public health effects of crematory
emissions.

Where possible, please highlight the comparative risks of crematoria emissions in the context of
emissions from other sources and the presence of elements and compounds found in crematoria
emissions compared to the presence of these elements and compounds naturally in the
environment or accruing as a by-product of process other than cremation. Also please provide
information so that it can be presented in chart, table, or graph form if possible.

Please pass this request to your neighbors, should they have an interest in compiling and
submitting applicable information for the City Council to consider.

over

~~
/\.tJ

2660 Civic Center Drive .:.
