REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br /> Date: 11/10/14 <br /> Item No.: 7.f <br />Department Approval City Manager Approval <br />Item Description: Certify Unpaid Utility and Other Charges to the Property Tax Rolls <br />B <br />ACKGROUND <br />1 <br />As authorized by City Code, Sections 506, 801, 802, and 906, the City annually certifies to the County <br />2 <br />Auditor any unpaid false alarm, water, sewer, and other charges that are in excess of 90 days past due, for <br />3 <br />collection on the following year’s property taxes. Affected property owners are provided a hearing to <br />4 <br />dispute any charges against their property. <br />5 <br />6 <br />Beginning in 2010, the City Council began approving certifications for delinquent utilities on a quarterly <br />7 <br />basis. This ensures that any unpaid utilities are brought to the attention of new property owners in a more <br />8 <br />timely fashion. It will also allow the City to record a lien against the property in the event that a property <br />9 <br />goes into foreclosure and/or is being prepared for sale for other reasons. <br />10 <br />11 <br />Attached is the current list of delinquent charges.
